Even though Nissan is a veteran to the realm of rallies and race events, the Nissan LEAF EV at such challenges is quite new. Even with lack of experience, it was still able to capture the championship title at the inaugural Oresund Rally.

Compared to traditional rally events, which are typically dirty and kind of crazy, the Oresund EV Rally was very pristine. Both competing EVs and the dirt stayed on the ground, for the most part.

The focus at Oresund was timing. Which is not to say the fastest EV won. Each EV driver had points docked both for under and over achievement, since the goal was precision! And, none was so precise as the Nissan LEAF EV.

Upon the conclusion of the event, Nissan released a press release, explaining the LEAF's performance in the two day challenge. "Nissan faced a tough competition with electric cars coming from some of the world's biggest car manufacturers. That did not hold Nissan back, however, and already on the first race day, it became clear that the Nissan team were in it to win. By the end of Saturday, the Nissan LEAF team was leading the race and when early Sunday arrived, it became clear to many that the Nissan team would triumph; beating Citrogen...Peugeot and Tesla respectively."¹

The Nissan team of Tim Svanhold and co-driver Bjarne Kristense were credited with driving the LEAF to success at the Oresund Rally. Svanhold is no stranger to such success, and has routinely been named "Rally Driver of the Year".
